UNIMOG: Live @ The Matinee (Special Guest: DJ Rukidding Rock) (December 17, 2011)

UNIMOG: Live @ The Matinee (Guest Starring: DJ Rekidding Rock)

Practice began a bit later than expected due to a Guitar Center technician being more interested in chatting with customers than getting Robbie’s new guitar tuned-up.  The energy was probably as high as it’s been so far during practice sessions.  “Succession Plan” was the real focus of the session. After working-out the transitions, the song was nailed 4-5 times getting better with each performance. An important note is this method in-which the song was attacked: It was not obsessed upon and beat into the ground. It was played a couple of times and then we moved onto something else. Then, we’d come back to it and see how it stuck. It was effective.

In-between “Succession Plan” and the usual set of cover songs, there were a few interesting jams, two of which were really good. The first was based-on the theme song from Sanford & Son. The second featured the first line-up of Robbie on drums, Zig on bass/vocals and Scott… well, Scott was an MC. At about the 3-minute mark of “Can You Feel It?”, Zig comes-in with the lyrics that would define the track and probably the night in-general.

Title Explanation:
Well… if you’ve ever been to The Matinee in Highland Square, you know where this is coming from. The band met friends there and quickly left for Ray’s Place when DJ Rukidding Rock started playing the hipster favorites from Pauly’s Boutique. Fuckin’ amateurs. Shots were ordered, but there were more like half-full rocks glasses of Jim Beam. An epic game of foosball followed and the rest of the night was a blur… except for that part where two guys tried to get into Zig’s car.
